Choosing a Basketball
Look at your palm. Which size looks like it would fit you? The most common sizes are: 29.5" circumference for men, 28.5" circumference for women and middle school aged boys, and smaller for elementary age school kids. Consider which type of court you will be playing on? Choose an indoor/outdoor ball if you're not sure. Rubber basketballs are usually your best investment for outdoor use. Go to a sporting goods store that sells a variety of balls and test how each size feels in your hands.
